Welcome to Parkroad Fellowship’s Spiritual Year 2023/24, where we delve into the powerful theme of “Empowered to Witness.” Aligned with our mission to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ through the Great Commission, this theme revolves around three vital aspects: Being Saved, Set Apart, and Sent. In this series, we begin by focusing on the transformative concept of Being Saved.

Part 1: To Be with Him – The Essence of Salvation

Imagine if Jesus had immediately sent His chosen disciples on a mission right after their selection as seen in Luke 6:12-16. What would their journey look like? What purpose would they fulfill? How would they gain authority? These intriguing questions spark curiosity.

Embracing Jesus’ Personal Call

Jesus’ deliberate approach is evident here: He initially called His disciples to Himself, fostering a deep, personal relationship with HIM. His priority was to establish an intimate bond before commissioning them for any ministry. This call was designed to cultivate intimacy and transformation through His boundless love. This foundation forms the cornerstone of a purposeful life – being WITH JESUS CHRIST FIRST.

The Pathway of Salvation

The most profound way He calls us, indeed the only way, is through salvation. It’s the initial step towards a profound connection He continually references that He does what His Father does and says what His Father says (John 5:19 -20, John 12:49-50. This highlights the depth of intimacy and connection. Before we’re equipped to witness, we must first be in communion with the “empowerer” – the source of empowerment, God Himself.

Prior to Going for Jesus, we need to Be with Jesus

Matthew 28:18-20 commands us to proclaim the good news across the earth. However, a prerequisite is being WITH Jesus. Are you connected with Him? Embrace the significant call to abide with Him (an ongoing relationship). Within His presence, we unearth divine purpose and strength. With this intimate foundation, we can confidently step into the world, fueled by the Holy Spirit, to fulfill our assignments.

A Generation of Seekers

I yearn for a generation that steadfastly seeks the God of All Things before the Things of God. Like Mary, opt for what remains eternal – the fullness of Christ Jesus (Luke 10:41-42).
